Macon County, Georgia was the site of the first Chief's Diploma Program in Georgia. The Macon County Chiefs' Diploma Program operated under Tiers Free Academy through The Dr. Annise Mabry Foundation and was first housed in the Oglethorpe GA Police Department. It was later housed inside the Marshallville Police Department. The program was a joint partnership with the Marshallville Police Department and the Montezuma Police Department with support from the Dollar General Foundation, Flint Energies, International Paper Foundation, The Macon County Chamber of Commerce, the Macon County Board of Education, and South Georgia Technical College. The Macon County Chiefs' Diploma Program ended the pilot program June 2022 after successfully graduating 136 students. Today, this program is called the Rural Communities Diploma Program. The Rural Communities Diploma Program still operates with law enforcement agencies and re-entry programs. Retired Oglethorpe Police Chief Rachael Hart is the Program Registrar and Retired Marshallville Police Chief Patricia Barber is the Director of Academic Support and Student Intake. The program now covers 78 rural Georgia communities and is supported with grant funding from The United Way of Greater Atlanta, OUTGeorgia Community Fund, and the Atlanta Pride Reinvestment Grant Fund.
